We are pleased to announce the successful completion of Block B at Sailworks, Lancaster, marking a major milestone in the transformation of this prominent riverside site into a modern, high-quality student living environment. With students now beginning to move in, the development is entering its next phase as it becomes an active part of the local community. Delivered in collaboration with Primus, with labour and social value support provided by We Are Footprint, Block B forms a key part of the wider Sailworks scheme, providing safe, comfortable and well-managed accommodation while also delivering long-term benefits for Lancaster and the surrounding area. From the outset, we committed not only to delivering high-quality buildings, but also to creating meaningful social value through the way we operate. Over the two-year programme, we embedded a comprehensive Employment Skills Plan and Social Value Strategy into the project to ensure that local people, businesses and young residents benefited directly from the investment. This approach generated 72 new jobs and saw £486,580 spent with local VCSEs (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises), ensuring that a significant proportion of project spend remained within the local economy. We also placed a strong focus on education, skills and early-career opportunities, delivering seven careers advice sessions to support people interested in construction and the built environment. In total, 71 qualifications were gained on site, helping individuals to build long-term career prospects and improve their future employability. Young people from the local area were given hands-on experience through 18 weeks of work placements, while we supported 162 apprentice weeks, helping to develop the next generation of skilled construction professionals. Alongside this, we worked to give back to the wider community, donating £800 and three full loads of toys to a local Christmas toy appeal to support families across Lancaster during the festive period. The Sailworks project has also been recognised for the way it was delivered, achieving a Considerate Constructors Scheme top score of 45 out of 45, reflecting the highest standards in safety, environmental care, workforce welfare and community engagement. With Block B now complete and students moving in, Sailworks is already beginning to take shape as a vibrant and well-managed part of Lancaster’s riverside. The final phase of the development, Block A, is due to be completed in Q1 2026, marking the final step in delivering this landmark student accommodation scheme.
